Germany’s desire to own the strongest tank resulted in the creation of the Tiger II. It was a combination of Tiger and Panther designs and one of the heaviest tanks in the war. The Tiger II 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 could withstand the heaviest armor, and its armor resisted the strongest Allied cannons. Despite poor mechanical reliability, it stopped even the largest tanks. Although produced in only 500 pieces, the Tiger II still managed to defend the reputation of the Tiger I.
